Placement Scores (SAT/ACT Math) and MPLF Scores (SAT/ACT Math, Math Credit)

This is for Fall  incoming first-year students only. SAT/ACT scores must be from 8/1/2024- present to be valid for math placement.  Students can qualify for courses based on the PPL Assessment (Math Placement test), SAT/ACT Math scores, or certain College Math Credit. Students get an MPLF score based on SAT, ACT, or Math Credit.

What is an MPLF score? MPLF scores are given to first year students for

  • SAT/ACT Math scores from 8/1/2024-present
  • College math credit through AP, IB, CLEP, Cambridge Exams, Dual Enrollment credit for courses that transfer as
    • Math 107, 112, 113, 116, 120R that were completed less than 2 years ago.  Math 107 (usually college math) courses or statistics courses (Math 163, 263) are generally not used for placement.
    • Math 122B, 125, 129 and higher level courses (calculus courses) taken at any time.
    • These scores have a date of 1/25/2026 and expire after 2 years for registration into most courses except Math 125 (expire after 1 year).

How is my MPLF score determined?

Use the charts below to see how your MPLF score is determined.

You are given the highest possible MPLF score based on all scores and credit in Next Steps Center.

For example: If you submit a College Algebra transfer credit equivalent to U of A Math 112 (MPLF 641) and an ACT Math score of 24 (MPLF 564)- your MPLF score would be 641.

SAT / MPLF Equivalency:

Your MPLF score directly correlates with your SAT Math score.

For example: If you submit a SAT Math score of 530, your MPLF score would be 530.
